CACTUS supports Japanese high school delegation to Regeneron ISEF for third consecutive year

Editage and Paperpal Provide English Support for Young Scientists, Contributing to Awards in Two Categories

For the third year in a row, Cactus Communications (CACTUS), a leading technology company specializing in AI-driven solutions and expert services for the scholarly publishing ecosystem, has supported Japanese high school students selected to represent Japan at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF 2025).

ISEF 2025, which took place in Columbus, Ohio, USA, from May 10 to 16, saw CACTUS supporting 12 Japanese high school teams as part of its corporate membership with the Nippon Science Service (NSS). CACTUS supported these students with English-language support, including proofreading research plans and speech manuscripts, providing audio practice materials, and helping them prepare their English presentations. Students also received free access to Paperpal, CACTUS’s AI-powered English editing tool, to help them prepare administrative documents in English.

As a result of these initiatives, the Japanese delegation secured two Grand Awards at ISEF 2025: Third Place in Environmental Engineering and Fourth Place in Physics and Astronomy.

CACTUS remains committed to empowering the next generation of researchers and advancing the future of science through continued support.

Tetsuya Muramoto, Associate Professor, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Toho University, and representative of NSS, commented, “The high school students participating in ISEF take on the major challenge of presenting their research in English. Having support for the English aspects of their preparation is incredibly reassuring. I believe this experience allowed them to develop logical thinking and a global perspective by helping them overcome language barriers and effectively communicate the significance of their research.”

Student Feedback (excerpts)

  • “I was very anxious about the English, so this support was incredibly helpful.”
  • “The support team clearly explained the correct pronunciation of each word, which made it easy to understand.”
  • “My mispronunciations were corrected, and I also received valuable feedback on tone and pacing—insights only an outside perspective could offer.”
