Aries Systems Corporation, a leading technology workflow solutions provider to the scholarly publishing community, announces a partnership with Cactus Communications (CACTUS), a leading science communication and technology company, to offer publishers an AI-powered automated solution for detecting compromised manuscripts.

As scholarly journals continue to experience a high-volume of incoming submissions, ensuring only the most suitable articles proceed to peer review is critical. Research integrity, language quality, scope, and formatting concerns can result in costly bottlenecks at the initial triage stage, further delayed by highly manual technical checks by editorial staff. To automate this process and enhance content quality, Aries Systems and CACTUS have collaborated to integrate Paperpal Preflight for Editorial Desk (PPE), a research integrity assessment and publication readiness tool, with Editorial Manager® (EM), the leading manuscript submission and peer review tracking system.

Leveraging the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI), PPE’s suite of checks evaluates manuscripts against three key pillars – research integrity, language quality, and technical compliance. Post-submission, PPE automatically analyzes the manuscript and generates a detailed report which is returned to EM for editorial review. Enabling editors to quickly identify problematic articles at an early stage, PPE streamlines the screening process without disrupting their current workflow, while also allowing for faster decisions on desk rejections or advancement to peer review. If the AI integrity check returns inconclusive, the editor can request an IntegrityGUARD human check by PPE’s PhD technical reviewers. This cutting-edge integration safeguards against bad actors and expensive retractions – promoting trust in the journal and published research.

Nikesh Gosalia, President, Global Academic & Publisher Relations at Cactus Communications, said, “Ensuring the integrity of research remains paramount for the entire scholarly publishing ecosystem. We are happy to deepen our partnership with Aries and work closely with them to support publishers to help optimize their time and resources by providing them comprehensive checks through Paperpal Preflight for Editorial Desk.”

“We are thrilled to expand our existing partnership with CACTUS and the Paperpal Preflight product line by extending AI-based quality checks to the Editorial Desk,” said Pierre Montagano, Aries Director of Sales and Business Development, Aries Systems. “This collaboration empowers Editors to quickly identify and address unpolished, fraudulent, and unsuitable articles within their existing workflow – saving time and supporting quality research output.”
