Cactus Communications, a leading science communication and technology company, has announced that Paperpal, its AI writing assistant for researchers, has surpassed 30,000 users in Japan as of October 2024. This underscores the trust Japanese academics place in Paperpal, which also offers an easy-to-navigate Japanese language interface to better support the rapidly expanding userbase in Japan. This feature allows Japanese users to easily understand the tool’s intuitive functions and utilize Paperpal to write their thesis, dissertations, and research papers faster without the need of an operating manual.
Since its introduction in Japan in March 2023, Paperpal has launched several advanced features to enhance the manuscript preparation process. This includes accurate translations from Japanese to English and vice versa, generative AI-powered features to empower users to swiftly paraphrase and reduce word length, and a globally trusted plagiarism checker in addition to its language editing capabilities. This end-to-end support has resulted in Japanese users consistently returning to Paperpal to simplify and streamline their academic writing journey.
Over the years, Paperpal has evolved from a reliable language editing tool to a comprehensive AI writing assistant that supports students, researchers, and academics through the entire writing process. By using AI to streamline tasks, Paperpal has reduced the workload associated with academic writing and improved accessibility to international journals.
Hiroto Takenaka, Lecturer, Department of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Health Sciences, Tokiwa University, commented, “Reflecting on over a year of use, Paperpal has supported my writing process as if I had a proofreader by my side, offering immediate suggestions for improvement. This has been invaluable in developing ideas and revising them immediately. In addition to Paperpal, the traditional English editing provided by Editage, with input from a professional editor, further enhanced my work by providing content suggestions from a third-party perspective.”
Makoto Yuasa, Chief Growth Officer, Research Solutions, Cactus Communications, said, “Unlike many AI tools, Paperpal’s rapid growth comes from the support of researchers and research institutions, who trust its comprehensive features, and accurate contextualized writing and editing suggestions, tailored to suit academic writing. The tool is being used by researchers in Japan and over 125 countries across the world, and we’ve continually relied on user feedback to enhance and develop features to better support them. Paperpal is now being used by several universities and research institutions in Japan as well. With the release of the Japanese interface, we believe that we have been able to provide more detailed support to researchers in Japan.”
